Opinion (mine)

From time to time, in response to a comment or suggestion from a subscriber, I will post a personal note to the list. These are not to be taken seriously at all, but merely as the not-so-humble opinion of a mere human who should know better than to think he understands anything at all!

INTRODUCTION

Many people believe that Saints, Sages or Prophets of God have
been with us since the beginning of time.  This is stated explicitly in
some of the world's scriptures.

I believe this as well and have read over time several texts, each of
which is considered by some number of people to be scriptural in
nature. Each religion grew out of the teachings of one of these
personages. On the other hand, the writings of many of them did not
spawn a religion.

Love Letters is a collection of quotes from scripture that I have
enjoyed reading. I don't claim to actually understand the true meaning
of any such quote, but try to read without judgment in the hope that the
message will have a positive affect on my behavior in my striving to
become a better human being.

Many letters appear to be an attempt to convey to us mortals some-
thing which cannot accurately be expressed using human language.

And some of them seem to be very clear advice as to how we ought
to conduct ourselves in this world.

A particularly interesting aspect of this project  is when items from
different  traditions seem to convey the exact same message. The
key word here is "seem",  because I can't claim to know for sure what
a given writing means. I do, as you might expect, have my not-so-
humble-pinion.    :-)

The bulk of these writings has been handed down over many years,
translated, retranslated and, in some cases, "corrected" by the clergy.
The best we can do is to get as close to the source as possible. Of
course, the notion that at least one of these personages is always
with us implies the existence of one or more of them today, who might
even write in our native tongue.

This note is my attempt to show you where my head is at with respect
to this list.  I plan to issue one or two items from my growing collection
each week.

I pray that subscribers might enjoy the readings, and that nothing I
might offer herein will cause any offense to the readers.

Go Jolly!
