System Activation

Bollard Bollard

The Bollard Activation System consists of a pair of bollards, or decorative posts, placed so pedestrians entering the LightGuard System must pass between them. Each bollard contains built-in sensors that detect pedestrians using the LightGuard System and the pedestrian's direction of travel. The sensors allows the in-roadway warning signals to activate for crosswalk entry and not for exit. Each bollard contains a sensor module and a transmitter module. A tightly collimated beam of modulated light is projected to the respective receiver mounted in the opposing bollard. Each sensor incorporates a high gain detector. This, coupled with high reflectivity reflectors, gives the sensors a significant immunity to dust, dirt, and partial blockage.

  • Requires no pedestrian action
  • Senses pedestrian and travel direction
  • No dwell time
  • Designed for outdoor exposure
  • System securely contained in aesthetically pleasing posts
  • Durable housing insures stability and alignment of sensors
  • Minimal maintenance
  • Bollard provides low level area lighting
  • Invites pedestrian to proper point of entry to crosswalk

Push Buttons
Active Push To Walk Button Assembly

Push Button
Manual installations utilize a standard pedestrian operated push button sign to activate the system. In these installations, a pole mounted control box containing the push button and a row of four flashing amber LEDs is placed near the entrance to the crosswalk. The LEDs indicate to the pedestrian that the warning system is active. This standard pedestrian activation push button device is to installed as recommended in the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).

ISAD

The ISAD (In-Surface Activation Device) is preferred when a second bollard may be subject to "knock-down" activity. The height of the ISAD is nearly flat (less than 1/2" above the surface). this unit houses the drive electronics to detect the pedestian's entry and/or exit from the crosswalk. Pricing for this specialized unit can be attained through your local representative.
