Herbert Blomstedt is one of the most vital, lively conductors
working today, belying his 70 years. He is intelligent and perceptive
and always seems to understand what is most appropriate for a
given piece. His sense of rhythm and phrasing are superb. His
technical conducting skill and control of the orchestra are simply
unmatched. But most of all he has great respect for his musicians,
is polite and gracious, and gives credit where it is due: to the
musicians who actually create the sound.
Herbert Blomstedt is chief conductor of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. He has been music director of some of the world's finest orchestras,
including the Dresden Staatskapelle and San Francisco Symphony. He has also led the North German Radio Symphony, Swedish Radio Symphony, Danish Radio Symphony, and Oslo Philharmonic. He has made many acclaimed recordings over the years, most notably
in Dresden and San Francisco. [ intro ] [ career ] [ recordings ] [ perspectives ] [ my homepage ] Created 24 July 1997. Last modified 29 June 1998. |
