Humboldt and Del Norte counties have a need for physicians in virtually all areas of medicine. Our needs are especially acute in the areas of Primary Care (including Family Medicine and General Internal Medicine), Neurosurgery, Otolaryngology, and Psychiatry; We also have a need for medical sub-specialtists in the areas of Endocrinology, Cardiology, Medical Oncology, etc. (see links below).

Humboldt and Del Norte Counties are designated Physician Manpower Shortage Areas. This means that if you decide to relocate to this area you may very well qualify for a variety of medical school loan forgiveness programs:

SHORTAGE AREA DESIGNATION

The Del Norte Physician Loan Repayment Program. 

This program is administrated through the Wild Rivers Community Foundation and is available to a new physician who locates and serves in Del Norte  County in a medical field of need.  This would be for a 4 year  commitment.  Preference is of course given to people who are likely to stay longer than the 4 years. Someone with previous ties to the area would get preference.    The MD would have to be willing to accept all types of insurances including  Medi-Cal and not refuse payment due to lack of.  This program would pay for any student loans of up to a maximum of 50 K a year or 200K over four years.   The payments would be made directly to the financial institution of record.  Please contact Gina Zottola at (707) 464-3174.
