Pinecrest Mountain Bike Ride

One of the best mountain bike rides in Northern California goes from Pinecrest to Twain Harte. The route starts just off Highway 108 at Strawberry School. Park adjacent to the school which is at the intersection of Highway 108 and Old Strawberry Road. If you leave a car parked in Twain Harte, this will be an all downhill ride. Just 24 miles of scenic riding on an old railroad right of way. You will be biking a section of the old Sierra Pines Railroad. It operated until the early 1960's as a logging railroad. Most of the ride follows the Stanislaus river. Take your lunch and make a day of it. Finish the ride by stopping in "The Rock" for a burger and beer. Tell the waitress Denny said to say hi!!

The gentleman at the right has just shot a duck decoy with a potato cannon. This is a popular activity amonst the more cultured mountain bikers.
