Lair of the Golden Bear Summer Camp

Owned and operated by the California Alumni Association since 1949, the Lair has provided memorable vacations for thousands of alumni and their families. Located in the heart of the Stanislaus National Forest at Pinecrest, California each session at this beautiful mountain retreat provides campers with seven days to unwind in the spectacular Sierras with no worries about cooking, cleaning, or what to do with the kids.
The Lair is a place where adults can get away and act like kids again! There is something for everyone. Tennis, basketball, swimming, volleyball, sailing, canoeing, games of all types are available. You can be as active as you wish. Many campers sling their hammocks in the quiet of the forest and catch up on the reading or their sleep.
Mountain biking has become a favorite activity of Lair Campers. It also provides an opportunity to meet and get to know your fellow campers.
Daily trips out into the wilds of the Stanislaus National Forest are lead by world famous mountain bike athlete Elliot "Crash" Mercer. Crash, long an understudy of Evil Kenivel, is employed in the off season by major mountain bike manufactures to perform destructive life testing on their latest equipment. Before each ride he cautions all riders that the moves they are about to see are performed by a trained professional and are not to be tried at home.
Tandem bikers also enjoy exploring the surrounding countryside. Throughout the summer wildflowers and sierra forests provide a scenic venue for fresh air and exercise.
High Sierra valleys, with snow melt fed streams are good destinations for day rides. Snow still clings to the peaks and giving an alpine feel to the Lair experience. Pack yourself a lunch, some wine, some cheese and get out to enjoy a picnic in the great outdoors.
When campers return to the Lair for dinner, they are treated to gourmet dinners served by the always festive staff.
