Chac Mool Rock

2004

20 x 28"

This rock formation and tree are on the west side of a hill in Marin County. On this particular morning, the sun has risen on the fog in the background, but the rock is still in the blue shadows. Wildflowers and grasses can just be picked out in the foreground .

The tallest rock is U-shaped, and my mother named it "Chac Mool Rock" as it resembles the Chac Mool statues of the Toltec and Maya.

I have painted this scene four times: as a wedding gift in early 1985, again in 1985 (sold), 2004 (also sold), and in 2007 (for my own collection).

From a private collection.
