Hound's Tongue

2011 20 x 28" Pacific Hound's tongue, Cynoglossum Grande These hardy perennials grow wild on our property, regenerating from woody korms which transplant well. I respected their ruggedness long before I took a closer look at them and started appreciating the charm of the flowers and seed pods. The flowers, a delicate Wedgewood blue, have a white central ring which is composed of five tiny white valentines. The five-petaled flowers give way to four seed pods, which grow out of the bases of calyces, starting out as yellow fuzz-balls and ending up as hard brown shells, covered with grappling hooks. The central styles adopt a color scheme reminiscent of the "missile" popsicles from my youth. Original available Giclée prints available: image sizes are: 18 x 25 1/4" (90%) and 10 x 14" (50%) |
