2010 13.6 x 19" The Genghis Khan of plants - an unstoppable, brutal alien invader. If you see this growing out in any bit of nature that you care about, put on some stout gloves and pull it up. Introduced in livestock fodder brought in for the gold rush, this plant has spread over most of the western US. It is drought, fire, and mowing tolerant, and inedible to anything but goats. I've read that it makes an outstanding honey. The blossom bursting from the seed pod evokes flame, while the spines radiate malice. I still have a childhood memory of walking along a path lined with these plants, brushing through them with my bare legs, and feeling my skin go numb. Original available Giclée prints available: image size is: 10 x 14" (74%) |
