Communications  - My call sign is KF6TYS

2 meter and 70 centimeter repeater site with an APRS digipeter and future WX Station

Amateur radio is a great hobby.  If you are interested in becoming an amateur radio operator, the American Radio Relay League has information you may find helpful.  There are several radio clubs in our area that operate and maintain repeaters.  These groups have scheduled radio nets or meet socially to share information and experiences.  Some of these include NOBARC, Chicken Net, and Sonoma Mountain Repeater Society

I am a general class amateur radio operator however my activity is mostly on 2 meter and 70 centimeter bands.  My mobile radio is a Kenwood TM-V7A.  My favorite mode is Automatic Position Reporting System (APRS).  APRS allows me to beacon my exact location by connecting a Garmin III+ Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) receiver to a handheld Kenwood TH-D7A(G) amateur radio.  My location is transmitted to a digipeter (photo above) or orbiting satellite and then automatically retransmitted to other APRS users as well as to an Internet I-Gate.  You can see the location of other APRS users by visiting the APRS Server website.

Another favorite mode is Slow Scan Television (SSTV).  Using a Kenwood VC-H1 connected to my handheld TH-D7A(G) radio, I can send digital pictures to other users as well as download pictures they transmit.

Need to send an alpha-page or PCS message?  Here are some links to Airtouch, Metrocall, AT&T Wireless and Verizon Wireless.  Last, the Bay Area Cellular One web site.
