Martha Grinder

Monday, January 22, 1866

The Pittsburgh poisoner, was executed by hanging Friday, January 19,
1866. She confessed to having poisoned MARY CARUTHERS and JANE
R. BUCHANAN, but denied other cases. A few days ago, a thorough
medical test was made of her mental condition and the conclusion was
unanimous that she was entirely sane. Her demeanor on the gallows was
unexpectedly calm.
