Anna Marie Hahn

The most notorious case is that of Anna Marie Hahn, executed Dec. 7,
1938. Dubbed "Arsenic Anna," the German native had immigrated to the
United States in 1929 at age 23. She was convicted Nov. 6, 1937, by an
11-woman, 1-man Hamilton County jury of using arsenic to murder
78-year-old Jacob Wagner. At least 7 other elderly men "Arsenic Anna"
had befriended also had suddenly died. Several bodies were exhumed and
arsenic was discovered in their systems. A man newspapers called "her
only living victim" was rolled into court in a wheelchair to testify
against her during her 3-week trial.
