behavior. He serves straight, bisexual, and gay individuals and couples.
Dr. King completed his doctorate in clinical psychology at UCLA, with a dissertation
investigating factors that influence satisfaction in marriage. He has over
15 years of clinical experience with children, adults, and families, including
service in various community agencies and 8 years in outpatient psychiatry
at a Kaiser Permanente Medical Center. He is a member of the American Psychological
Association and the National Council on Sexual Addiction and Compulsivity.
"My approach to psychotherapy draws from my broad training to incorporate and
integrate many theoretical approaches and treatment techniques. In my experience
no one model works for every person or every problem. I believe a careful assessment
includes determining what approach will be most effective for each individual,
given their goals, life experiences, cultural background, and resources. In helping
to heal shame and compulsion surrounding sexual behavior, I have been most influenced
by the teaching and writings of Patrick Carnes,Ph.D. and Aviel Goodman,M.D. I
have seen the hope, strength, and community of support that 12-step recovery
programs offer to people struggling with addictive behaviors. I have extensive
experience in effectively integrating psychotherapy with participation in 12-step
programs."
