If you think that saving the world takes herculean strength or a magic wand, then think again. All saving the world takes is determination, motivation, and a healthy desire to breathe fresh clean air. I once had a teacher who said, "If you want something enough, there is nothing that can stop you from getting it."  I always say, you can take the human out of the earth, but you can't take the earth away from the human. No, we'd definitely be up a creek without a paddle. If you want to get invovled, I applaud you. There is many things you can do. You can call up your local community environmental group and volunteer your time or money and/or know how your elected officials vote and vote accordingly. Here are a few things you can do to help make our planet clean, fresh, and a better place....   Reduce, reuse, recycle. I believe people are starting to get the hang of it. Reduce the toxic products that you buy. Whenever you pick up something in the store, consider, once you've used the product, what will be left over. Buy accordingly. The less packaging the better. Reuse what you have in your house. Before buying new, think about what you already have and what new things you can use it for. Recycle as much as you can. How many times do we have to say this before it becomes a catch phrase? They make it easy for us in my little part of California, they give us three recycle bins; glass, paper, plastic, and pick it up with our garbage. How much easier can that get? If your city doesn't do that, maybe it's time you demand that they do.  My tip for recycling is to keep a small, large, or medium paper bag next to your garbage can in each room. When you are heading to throw away something, if it's paper, put it in the bag. You have no idea how much garbage we produce that is paper. A lot. Take my word for it. Then recycle. According to the State of California, recycling "glass, aluminum, newspaper, batteries, paint, used oil and plastic soda saves energy and natural resources" as well as generating less pollution. Let alone the space it saves in our landfills. Sure, it takes a little extra effort. But the results are fewer landfills, less waste, and a positive feeling that you are doing something for the future, for your kids, and for the generations to come.
