If you didn't notice, when you clicked on the "Open" link, instead of loading a new page or a new frame, the content panel was immediately replaced with this introduction. This is an example of javascript and CSS programming. This is often referred to as DHTML. Other examples of DHTML you will find here are the date and clock functions in the above masthead, and the expandable menus in the navigation area on the left. Web Site: Radio Showcase

Radio Showcase was designed to market recordings of old time radio programs. The site combines JavaScript and Perl to perform various interactive functions. A flat file database of over 15,000 entries delivers dynamic content in a variety of ways. Each result of a search can be added to an on screen order form in real time. The order form automatically calculates the cost of merchandise, Quantity Discounts, Bonus Incentives, Sales Tax (if applicable), and both domestic or international shipping costs. All the customer has to do is type in their name and address. When the order form is submitted a receipt is presented in a new window and a receipt is also sent to the customer in an email. The site also employs a number of pop-up help screens. This has made Radio Showcase one of the best and easiest to use web sites for old time radio sales.

Database Programming: Web Site 101

I used PHP to create a MYSQL database driven interview for the Santa Rosa Jr. College Web Design Dept. Also incorporated into the site are web based forms for the administration of the database. The site administrator can add, delete, change, edit, or rearrange the MYSQL database without having to know anything about MYSQL.

Intranet Site: Cisco Systems Inc. - Petaluma

As part of the design team, I used advanced CSS and DHTML to author this prototype for the local Petaluma offices of Cisco Systems Inc. Navigational roll overs are all controlled by CSS which makes it very easy and fast to update. Information sharing was the goal for this site enabling the employees to perform as a more efficient team.

Multi-Functinal Web Site:

This multi page informational web site uses CSS/Javascript content swapping, templates for archived linked articles, forms submission with verification and backend processing, CSS print style sheets, a MYSQL/PHP database driven calendar function with an event submission form front end, CSS formated layouts, and various other PHP code enhancements.

CSS Structure and Print:
Adena De Joya Spiritual Center

This multi page informational web site uses CSS for structure and CSS print styles for optimal printing of the articles/pages within the web site. The formating keeps the screen size the same while CSS/Javascript content swapping allows easy navigation within each page. Using php allows for the reuse of the heading and navigational code throughout the site reducing the amount of redundant code.

Medical And Educational Web Site:
Cognitive Development Institute

This site presents insightful information for parents who have children with learning and attention deficit problems. Navigation is broken down to four main areas, each with its own set of subnavigation links. All content is confined within a consistent screen area. There are also two downloadable pdf files for potential clients to use to evaluate their child.

Simple Web Database

This is an example of using a search form to find and display results based on multiple criteria. Part of the results are links to .pdf files the user can view for further product information. The php script works with a simple text file that is administered with another web based form.

Service Business Web Site:

This multi page service business web site is structured by CSS and uses techniques to maintain a consistant screen size. The horizontal navigation is for the main sections while the vertical navigation changes in tandem with the main section being viewed. This provides for an easy to navigate user experience. I also provided all the textural and photographic content for the site.

Business Solutions

The following examples encompass projects created with Microsoft Access and Microsfot Word. Each uses advanced programming skills with Microsoft's Visual Basic for Applications programming language.

Access Database Application Design:
Computer Recycling Center

This integrated database application was designed so that the end user does not need to know how to use Microsoft Access. All data input, querying and reports are run from easy to use forms. This particular database is geared to inventory and tracking donations of computer, test equiptment, communications and home electronics for recycling. It generates receipts, pick-up trip sheets, client lists, and inventory reports. Some forms employ helper functions to aid in data input, whether it be filling in a new field or ceating a new client record from within a donation intake form. The application relies on heavy use of VBA programming to customize many of the limited built in functions that Access normally uses.

If you have importatnt data that you need to keep track of and/or use on a daily basis then a custom designed Access application will save you time and money in your daily business.

Word Programming:
Easy Form Based Document Creation

Unleash the power of Microsoft Word using simple forms to create complex documents in half the time it would take to use a template. Microsoft Word is capable of much more precise layout and font manipulation when programmed using its internal scripting language. If you need to create the same document multiple times during normal business hours, such as a lease, contracts, applications, reports, etc., then using form based document creation will double your productivity and reduce your time. Forms can also be programmed to be smart anticipating the data you will need and offering you quick choices saving even more time. Math functions are also possible if your document requires this type of data entry. Forms can be taylored to your specific needs. The end result is a polished and precise document every time.

Word documents can also be integrated with a database or Excel lists to produce more intelligent mail merges than is possible with Word's built in mail merge functions.

(http://www.radio-showcase.com) Programmed in Perl a multifield CGI search engine for a database / catalog used on the Radio Showcase web site, resulting in increased customer activity. Used Javascript to create a client side point and click catalog display that interfaces with an on screen order form, including form verification, and an interactive order calculator, all of which has resulted in increased performance and sales for the Radio Showcase web site. Designed and programmed a MYSQL multi table database at the Web 101 web site for Santa Rosa Jr. College to display interviews. Used PHP to code interview questionnaire, multi format display, and full administration web based application. (http://www.santarosa.edu/cis/101/index.html) Designed and produced intranet site for the Petaluma offices of Cisco Systems. While offering local employees a community based resource the site also links to other corporate offices and informational sources. (http://www.sonic.net/~otrsteve/cisco/index.html) Application Programming Used Acius relational database software to design a catalog which was integrated with Xdata and Quark Xpress to automate the creation of cassette labels and catalog pages for the direct marketing company, Radio Showcase. This netted a savings of over 50% in costs and time incurred to produce these printed materials. Publication Designer, Art Director, Illustrator From design concept to page layouts and finished production art, produced nationally distributed magazines including: Survival Guide, Truckin', Street Rodder, and The Registered Representative. Freelanced editorial and product illustration to TRM Publications, AMF Voit, Toastmasters International, etc. Exhibited at Illustration West and Orange County Art Directors Club. Direct Marketing - Internet Marketing Managed the marketing for Radio Showcase, a small internet based company, producing total gross sales of $500,000 for the last 10 years.
