Continuing Certification Requirements for PMP

PMPs must complete and submit a minimum of sixty Professional Development
Units (PDUs) during each Continuing Certification cycle. A PMP’s
Continuing Certification cycle can be identified by the dates on their
PMP Certificate. PMPs must also comply with the PMP Code of Professional
Conduct to maintain certification status.
All PMPs should maintain a personal CCR folder with documentation that
supports reported activities. A percentage of PMPs will be randomly
selected for auditing purposes each year; therefore documentation should
be maintained for at least 12 months after the CCR cycle has ended.
PMPs may also view their CCR transcripts online and can also report
activities electronically via the PMI website.
Qualifying Activities
The
PMI Web Site maintains an up-to-date description of qualifying
activities that earn PDUs. There are five categories of qualifying
activities:
- Category 1: Formal Academic Education
- Category 2: Professional Activities
- Category 3: PMI Registered Education Providers
- Category 4: Other Providers
- Category 5: Service to Professional or Community Organizations
The PMI-WCC is an accredited Category 3
Registered Education Provider (R.E.P.). As such, PMPs who attend programs
sponsored by the PMI-WCC can receive PDUs corresponding to the type of
program offered.
Category 2, under the general title of "Professional Activities", gives
the PMP the opportunity to get credit for self-development work they do.
While the number of PDUs that count toward meeting Continuing Certification
Requirements is limited (see the PMI website for details), you can count
activities like reading project management-related books, and attending PMI-WCC
breakfast meetings. You are asked to evaluate the work you do on such tasks,
and to retain documentation of the work you did, but there are no other
requirements beyond reporting these PDUs to PMI.
For more information about PMI-WCC programs that PMPs can attend to earn
PDUs, contact the PMI-WCC VP of Professional Development.
