Enjoy the rich color and complex grain of our old growth
Douglas Fir. There is nothing like it sold on the market today. As trees grow old they the grain is densified, and years ago much of the lumber was milled very differently than it is today. The lumber we use to make our flooring comes from 2x10 rafters, which had a mixed type of grain. Floors made from the rafters show complex swirls, straight vertical grain as well as long sweeping face grains. As recycled lumber, interesting character marks show up here and there where a fixture once hung from the rafter.
We harvest our lumber from older buildings in the area, carefully dismantling each building to preserve the lumber for future use. This lumber has been hidden away in rafters for over fifty years, aging and getting stronger. As you enjoy the beauty of your natural wood floor, you will know where it came from, the history of the building in which it aged. When we dismantle buildings we always find out interesting facts of its history to share with our customers.
So, if you're thinking of putting in a wood floor, think of Beyond Waste, where buying a beautiful floor at a reasonable price means you’re preserving old growth forests, supporting the development of meaningful jobs, while adding to the value and beauty of your home.
Our flooring is reasonably priced at $3.75 a square foot. A one third deposit is required when placing an order. You may place you order by phone, or better yet, come to our warehouse and we'll give you a tour. We have a demonstration floor at our warehouse so that you can see exactly what it is you will be getting. Allow up to a month for us to create your floor.

To Potential Flooring Customers:
We cut Beyond Waste character grade floors from old fir construction lumber. The flooring boards will, therefore, have knots, nail holes, stains etc. The lumber is decidedly distressed. Also installation can be a little bit more difficult than freshly cut flooring made from new wood, and care must be used when installing as old Douglas Fir can be quite hard and occasionally have stress cracks or some other unseen flaw. We always try to include a little extra wood to allow for unforeseen problems that may occur. However, if you try to cut out all the knots and other imperfections, you might not have enough wood to finish the job.
A Beyond Waste character grade floor is very beautiful when laid and finished with care and patience. If you want a floor free of imperfections, you may find buying a floor made from new lumber more to your taste.
