1 Female 26-45 years He died before 1850. The Jones family originated
in Wales. Just before the Revolutionary War, Phillip Jones and his younger brother,
James came to America and were in South Carolina. Phillip enlisted in the Continental
Army early in the war and served until the close. James favored the British
cause and enlisted in that army. Shortly, however, he quietly withdrew (or deserted)
and entered the Continental Army where he served until the end of the war. Both
Phillip and James returned to Greenwood, South Carolina and married there. Both
brought their families to the Green River County, (now Edmonson county) Kentucky,
about 1800. Many of the descendants of James Jones still reside in that area.
(White, chapter 11)
I am fairly certain that Philip Jones had a brother James who was in the Rev
War who came here with them. He also had a son Philip! That means we had three
Philip Jones in Edmonson Co area at the same time. (Winnie)
The Philip Jones I have placed here as James son is a tenative linkage. I already
have two other Philip Jones's in the Edmondson Co. 1850 census, and this third
one might be James son. |
