They came to New York in 1866 and to Jones county, Iowa in 1868 where they engaged in farming for a period of 13 years, and then removed to Monticello. Their family consisted of 12 children, eight of whom are living and all of them excepting a married daughter, Mrs. Hubbell of Nebraska, were present at the funeral services, which were conducted in the German Reformed Church of which Mrs. Peters is a member, Rev. E. Gruenstien the pastor conducting the series in German, who was followed by Rev. David Street who spoke in English. The services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday Dec., 21st and the interment was Oakwood cemetery. Mr. Peters was a member of the order of Odd Fellows, and the members were present at the funeral service. She immigrated in 1867.433 1900 census has 1869, 31 years in the U.S. Anna's obituary says Mr and Mrs Peters came to the US after 3 years of marriage (1867), stayed in New York State 3 yrs, then moved to Iowa (1870) She was German Reformed between 1870 and 1913 in USA, Iowa, Jones Co., Monticello. Anna died of cancer of the stomach on 6 September 1913 at the age of 71 in USA, Iowa, Jones Co., Monticello.433 Mrs. Peter Ommen died, at home, last Saturday evening, after a long and severe illness. She had been confined to her bed for a number of weeks before her death with cancer of the stomach. Hence her death was not unexpected. Mrs. Ommen was of a jovial nature, and always had a good word for everyone. She was a friendly neighbor and had a wide range of friends. She was born in the province of Hanover, Germany, September 28, 1843. She lived with her parents in the Fatherland, and was married there in the year 1864 to Herman Peters. Mr. and Mrs. Peters remained in Germany for three years and then removed to the United States. They first settled in New York state, and three years later came to Monticello, where they lived for a long time. Later they moved to Langworthy, where they resided on a farm for a number of years. They then returned to Monticello, where Mr. Peters died, December 18, 1897. In 1899, Mrs. Peters married Peter Ommen, who survives her. Mrs. Ommen was the mother of twelve children, four of whom are dead and eight survive. The survivors are as follows: Mrs. William Hubbel, of Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Henry Eilers, of Monticello; Mrs. Ed. Eilers, of Monticello; Henry Peters, of Chicago; Mrs. John Wenger, of Monticello; Mrs. Peter Jock, of Cedar Rapids; Mrs. John Olmstead, of Waterloo; and George Peters, of Waterloo. The funeral services were conducted, yesterday afternoon, by Rev. Roland Kuntsel, of the German Reformed church, and interment was had at Oakwood cemetery. Mrs. Ommen will be kindly remembered for a long time because of her gentle sympathy for those in distress, her genial disposition and her interest in the happiness of those about her. Services for the immediate family were held at 1:40 at the Goettsch funeral home and services for the public at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian church in Monticello. Rev. William J. Grossheim officiated at both services. Interment was made at Oakwood cemetery. Anna Katherine Eilers was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Peters. She was born Sept 20, 1871, at Langworthy. Her death occurred at 9:15 Saturday evening, Oct. 16, following an extended illness. She was married to Edward Eilers January 11, 1893, and to this union were born three sons, Merle of Anamosa, and Frank and Glenn of Monticello. She had lived in this vicinity all her life. Her husband died October 29, 1942. She is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: George, Peter, Mrs. Lillian Hart, Cedar Rapids; Mrs. John Wenger, Monticello; and Mrs. Augusta Kellogg, Waterloo; and by the following grandchildren: Mrs. Betty Hall, Central City; Mrs. Ruth Bach, Cedar Rapids; Henry Ed Eilers, Coggon; Miss Freda Eilers, Monticello, and Corporal Frank Eilers of Camp McCain, Miss., and by five great grandchildren. Mrs. Eilers was a faithful member of the Presbyterian church of Monticello and was a past president of the ladies' social circle of the church. Minnie Elizabeth Peters Wenger was born Dec. 21, 1874, near Langworthy, the daughter of Herman and Anna Farrichs Peters. She moved with her parents at an early age to Monticello where she lived the remainder of her life. Mrs. Wenger was one of 12 children and was the last surviving member of her family She married John Wenger Aug 23, 1892. Her husband died Jan. 5 1955. Mrs. Wenger is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Edna McCoy of Monticello and Mrs. C. R. (Byrdena) Rollins of Marion; one grandson Capt. Donald McCoy of Tempe Ariz., and two great grandchildren.
