RICHARD SALTUS, St George's Parish, planter. Wife: Mary, use of house and lots
in Dorchester during her life. Son: Archibald, plantation at Euhaw, plantation
on Turtle River purchased of John Joor in Georgia, lot in Charles Town. Daus:
Mary; Elizabeth, my part of tanyard in Dorchester, plantation next to Mr. Peter
Bocquet, Mr. Richard Walter and estate of Barnaby Branford. Brothers: Henry
and Samuel Saltus. Sisters: Mary Waldren and Elizabeth Porter. Mentions executors
to sell house in Dorchester and build house in Charlestown for my children;
residue of estate to wife and 3 children: Louisa Tucker; all children under
21 years; children of my brothers; Offspring Pearce and Thomas Baker. Exors:
wife during her widowhood; William Sanders; Richard Walter; Benjamin Tucker.

In the name of God Amen, I Richard Saltus of St. George's Parish Planter being
of Sound Mind & Memory do make and Ordain this my last Will & Testament
that is to say I recommend my Soul to the Almighty God that gave it in sure &
certain hope that I shall receive it again at the General Resurrection &
my body I recommend to be buried at the descresion of my Executors hereafter
to be mentioned And as touching such Worldly Estate as it hath pleased God to
bless me with in this life after all my just Debts & funeral Charges have
been paid I Give devise & bequeath in manner & form following that is
to say First Give devise & Bequeath to my Beloved Wife Mary Saltus in Lieu
of her Right of Dower the use of one fourth part of my Personal Estate during
her Widowhood & after her marriage I will that it be equally divided between
my three children Archibald, Mary & Elizabeth Saltus I Likewise give the
use of my house and lotts in Dorchester to my said Wife Mary Saltus during the
term of her natural life if my Executors should not think proper to sell if they
do dispose of it it is my Will that the moneys arising from the sale of the said
house & Lotts be equally divided between my beforementioned Children &
that my Executors shall build or hire a Good & Sufficent house in Charles
Town or otherways as my said Wife shall think proper to dwell in during the term
of her natural life Item I give devise & Bequeath unto my Beloved Son Archibald
my Plantation at the Ewhaws to him & his heirs forever but in case he should
die before he arrives at the age of twenty one years I then give the said plantation
to my two daughters Mary and Elizabeth to them & their heirs for ever I
also give my said Son Archibald my Plantation on Turtle River lately bought of
John Joor in the province of Georgia also my lott in Charles town to him &
his heirs forever & in case he dies before to the age of twenty one years
then I will that it shall be equally divided between my two aforementioned Daughters
Item I give devise & Bequeath unto my Daughter Mary the Sum of four thousand
Pounds to be applied for her use as my Executors shall think proper Item I give
devise & Bequeath unto my Daughter Elizabeth my part of the tanyard in Dorchester
& my Plantation adjoyning Lands of Mr. Peter
Bocquet, Mr. Richard Walter & Estate of Barnaby Branford to her & her
heirs for ever & in case she should not live to the age of twenty one years
or day of marriage I then will that it may be equally divided between my surviving
Children I also give my said Daughter Elizabeth One thousand Pounds to be applied
for her use as my Executors shall think Proper Item I Will that my Personal
Estate be divided into four equal parts one fourth part I Give the use of to
my beloved wife Mary Saltus as before mentioned & the remaining three parts
I Give to my three Children Archibald Mary & Elizabeth & in case my said
three children should die before they arrive at the Age of Twenty one years or
day of Marriage it is then my Will that it be divided between the Children of
my brothers Henry and Samuel Saltus Mary Waldren and Louisa Tucker Item It
is my desire that my Negroes be kept on whatever Plantation my Executors shall
think fit & that the moneys arising therefrom shall be laid out for the
advantage of the Children as the said Executors shall think proper Item I desire
my Executors will give to my Sisters Mary Waldren and Elizabeth Porter also my
Good friends Offspring Pearce and Thomas Baker Mourning Rings each in Token of
the Regard I had for them while living Lastly I appoint my beloved Wife Mary
Saltus Executrix during her Widowhood & no longer & my worthy friends
William Saunders Richard Walter & Benj. Tucker Executors to this my last
Will & Testament hereby revoking & disannulling any Will or Testament
heretofore made in Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & Seal this
thirty first day of March in the year of our Lord One thousand Seven Hundren
& Seventy three & in the thirteenth year of his Majestys Reign.

Qualified Mary Saltus Executrix to said Will.
