36. John Henry DeWitt^9,237,238 was born on 8 November 1822 in USA, Kentucky.⁹ A family note has Willisburg written after his birthdate. I now suspect that he resided there, but wasn't born there. The census index at the FHC had no DeWitt's in Washington Co. during 1820.

The 1850 & 1860 census lists Kentucky as his birthplace.
The 1870 & 1880 census lists Indiana as his birthplace. He died on 16 May 1892 at the age of 69.⁹ Chronology of John Henry DeWitt.
1822 - born in Kentucky, probably in Hardin Co, which is now Larue Co. (His parents m. 1819 Hardin Co. near Mammoth Cave. This area didn't became LaRue Co. until 1843 when LaRue was formed from Hardin.)
1843 - married in KY. Where? Hardin Co.? His wife was born in Hardin Co.,
1845 - KY. 1st child born.
1850 - 1860 Illinois, Pike Co., Perry area. Many relatives had moved to this area. In 1850 USC they were living with John Henry's sister's family, Jacob W. and Eveline Putz. In 1860 USC they were living next door to Presley Chenoweth, Mary Jane's first cousin.
1853 - Texas, Daughter Mary Belle has Texas listed as birthplace in both the 1860 & 1870 census. Mary Jane's Uncle Hardin Thomas Chenoweth was living in Bell Co. Texas, his wife Nancy Hart died there in 1851. Possibly they were visiting him?
1862 - 1870 Kentucky, Anderson Co., near Fox Creek area and Willisburg. When son Lafayette was "5 years old, (1862) his dad moved to Anderson Co., Ky near Fox Creek, as farmer; stayed 5 years, then started a dry goods business in Willisburg; including grocery and farm." Son Henry has birth date of July 1870 in Anderson Co.
1870 - Kentucky, Jefferson Co., Louisville. John Henry was keeping a tavern. This census was dated June 1870, and includes Mary Jane, but not baby Henry.
1874 - 1890 Kentucky, Jefferson Co., birth of last child in 1874, John H. listed in city directories of 1887 and 1890.
1880 - Census Illinois, Adams Co., Concord. His mother is living with his brother in Illinois.
1892 - Died, Kentucky, age 69. Possibly in Anderson Co., but maybe Jefferson?
