Vincent died on 30 October 1954 at the age of 80 at Frank R. Howard Memorial Hospital in USA, California, Mendocino Co., Willits.6,105,106 Vinson died from a hit and run accident. He was hard of hearing and was struck by a car driven by Keith Hurt in Covelo on the 29th of October. They took him to the hospital in Willits that evening but he passed away at 9 AM the following day.

He was buried on 1 November 1954 at Valley View Cemetery in USA, California, Mendocino Co., Covelo.107,108 His death certificate says: Masonic Cemetery Memoirs of Marjorie (Lovejoy) Prouty -
"My grandfather, Vinson English, was born in Redwood Valley (Ukiah), on a large ranch. His family had a Chinese cook who taught him Chinese songs and how to count in Chinese. He went to Sweets Business College in Santa Rosa and graduated in 1899. He married Fannie Brown and lived in Covelo (Round Valley).
His brothers, Dan and Wylie, also lived in Covelo. They had ranches there. Another brother had a ranch in Sacramento Valley. I was very afraid of the uncle who visited from Sacramento Valley when I was little. He talked very loud and insisted on my sitting on his lap. A sister, Elizabeth, "Auntie", was a school teacher who never married. She lived in southern California but spent her final days in Ukiah.
I remember when I was young, probably around 1932, the community put on a musical variety show. One of the acts was called "The Three Black Crows" featuring Dan, Wylie, and Vinson dressed up in black costumes singing. Vinson played the violin when a young man.
Vinson hauled freight and lumber. I remember riding on the freight and lumber wagon drawn by four large horses. The bench-type seat was high above the horses. Vinson had a small ranch and dairy and also was the county assessor for many years. He was well educated and well-read. He liked to talk, especially about "politics". I recall him insisting that this country should "watch Russia" and "beware of China." This was during the depression."

Excerpt from interview with Mark Walker:
"Vince English, I didn't know him well, but I knew him. I knew him way back. I think I met him about 1911 and I remember the first time I ever saw, talked to him. I was driving a freight team from Branscomb to the coast and freight from the coast to Branscomb, from Sherwood Valley to Branscomb, and from Covelo back and forth hauling stuff out of Covelo or to Covelo. ...sometimes bring back grain... like that. Branscomb bought two horses from Vince English and put them in the team. So I was coming up the mountain there from Dehaven and Vince English comes down and says, "Stop, I want to see my two horses." They was on the team. I didn't know him, we got acquainted then, that way. He stops to see his two horses and we talked and after that I knew Vince English. When Rob got married, I knew who he married. I knew Darrell very well. Darrell was Lou English's son. And Darrell's mother was Lovell, and Darrell's mother's sister was Gina, Gina Lovell."

23. Frances Gonella "Fannie" Brown104 was born on 30 March 1877 in USA, California, Mendocino Co., Covelo.6,112 She died on 4 February 1961 at the age of 83 in USA, California, Mendocino Co., Ukiah.6,112 Died at the Holden St. Rest Home in Ukiah.
Aged 83 yrs., 11 mos., 4 days.

She was buried on 6 February 1961 at Valley View Cemetery in USA, California, Mendocino Co., Covelo.108,112 When she was a young woman, Frances worked as a home economics teacher on the Covelo Indian Reservation, teaching Indian girls cooking, sewing and other household skills. The family still has two hand made baskets given to her from one or two of her students. Her granddaughter remembers her using the larger basket to hold her knitting yarn. Fannie married Vinson English when she was twenty-seven. After marriage she worked for a while as a telephone operator and then ran a drug store for a local physician, John S. Hogshead, M.D. Her granddaughter, Marjorie, remembers being disappointed that she wouldn't let them have any of the chocolates or other candy in the display dishes in the drug store's glass cabinets. Fannie was always setting mouse traps for the mice scurrying through he cabinets at night, so her grandmother always had peppermints in her purse that she let them have instead. Marjorie also recalled overhearing when she was little that the only other doctor in town was an alcoholic that would sell liquor to Indians. This was against the law at that time period.
