The earlist Covenanter congregation was in Kellswater. The earlier roots of the congregation were at the Round Hole, Laymore (Leighmore / Leamore), Ballymena, co. Antrim, N. Ireland, where there was a natural amphitheatre. Regular services were held there by visiting ministers from Scotland.
Leamore may have been the property of William Adair who was granted land c.1618 with Mr. Houston, possibly his bro-in-law from Killaisser in Wigtownshire or Cotreoch in Whithorn, Wigtownshire, Scotland.
The Presbytery was founded in 1743 and Kellswater became the center in 1760. This was decided by Rev. Wm Martin.
