Cranfield is a small rural village in Bedfordshire, seven of eight miles southwest from Bedford. The parish of Little Odell, about one mile north of Bedford, is where the Rev. Peter Bulkley, the first pastor and teacher of the Concord Church originated. A short distance southeast of Bedford is the cottage of John Bunyan. Early in the history of Concord a part of town at or near Meriam's Corner was known as "Cranefield".
Obadiah owned considerable property in and around Concord, and lived for a time, at least, in the East Quarter of the Town. His first wife was named Susannah. She died at Concord, March 24, 1649, and he married again but the name of his second wife is not known. He had nine children, seven with Susannah, and two with his second wife.
