This is probably the best MK game ever made. It has a total of 37 playable characters, new and old. It has all the backgrounds from UMK3, most of ones from MK2, and a few from MK1 (the pit of course!). You can now play as any boss, including Shao Kahn, Motaro, Kintaro, and Goro. It features all the UMK3 characters, and Noob Saibot, Rain, and Human Smoke are directly playable from the select screen. You can also play as MK1 and MK2 Raiden, Baraka, MK2 Jax and Kung Lao, MK1 Kano, and a new Johnny Cage. Each has been given a new special more or two, plus a brutality. The game still plays the same as UMK3 however, so the old guys have been given combos and running ability. A new character named Chameleon is in the game, but he's just the Ninja characters in Randper combat mode, switching back and forth between them. (looks cool with the fading/transparencey though). Overlooking the few gliches in the game, it is really good. The load time can be reduced to almost nothing by turning off things in the options (such as the contine screen and the between round pix), and the sound is arcade perfect. One downside is the game feels like it was spliced together, as almost all of the new moves are just old animations rehashed into something else, and the new fatalities are just the same lame "bones" deal. The Pit II was taken out because of the need to reanimate the new characters for it (that's my guess anyway, it seems to fit their lazy pattern of programming), as well as MK2 Kung Lao's hat split fatal and MK2 Jax's arm ripper. (same reason as the Pit II I'd guess). However, these are minor complaints, and just the fact that you can use the old guys is really cool. (I love old-school Kano, and yes, he still has his heart-ripper fatality! :). It makes the game stand out from the rest, as it combines new and old for one excellent game.
I typed up a few moves and stuff for the game a few days after I got it, don't expect anything great, but it's got all the info you'll probably need, like brutalities and the codes for chameleon and extra options.
