Help came to the people inside Wounded Knee from many places. One
was Rapid City, where people were organized to hike food into Wounded
Knee. Rapid City became the center of the Wounded Knee relief effort.
Another form of help came in the from of an airlift. Bill Zimmerman
led a small group of men who parachuted bags of food to the people
of Wounded Knee, who needed it desperately.
Without the help from the outside Wounded Knee II could have ended
when supplies ran out for those inside.
