The Cleanup
The Bureau of Indian Affairs wanted to find a way to help
the Native Americans get back to a regular way of life. They set up
a group of twelve people, chaired by Robert Livingston, to examine the
effects of Wounded Knee. They were sent to the Pine Ridge reservation
to meet with the residents of the various districts that make up Pine
Ridge. After the third meeting, Robert Livingston was the only one who
stayed to continue and meet with other various districts. He learned
that in some districts there hadn't been a federal agent in ten or more
years.
The Bureau of Indian Affairs started projects and sent
money to the districts so that they could start making improvements
to the society that was drastically changed.
