EVERYTHING A MAN COULD WANT - [C&W slop] 27 August 2005 - Whitehorse YT

I got me a truck, I got me a dog I got me a rifle and I got me a trailer And I got me a woman and a nice motorboat - [chorus:] I got about everything a man could want I got about everything a man could want - I got me a son and I got me a horse I got me a freezer and a new Nintendo I got a grenade and a bag of purple condoms [chorus] - I got me a name and I got me a history I got vaccinations and digital radio I got cops for friends and a good pharmacist [chorus]

IN DAWSON CITY - [electro-jazz] 27/28 August 2005 - Whitehorse YT

In Dawson City in '98 The goldfields burned like wildfires in the North Klondike Kate and Mukluk Maggie Shacked up with a slick-tongued Swedish gambler Nights were spent as usual Extracting gold from lonely lucky prospectors Mornings they'd make a sandwich Kate on top and Sven on bottom and Meg in the middle - In Dawson City in '98 The chechakos arrived, the food supplies ran out Klondike Kate and Mukluk Maggie Stuck it out traded for gold dust and wolverine hides Poor young slick-tongued Sven Could deal faster that he could draw his Colt Winter winds blew memories away And the living praised and devoured the dead, as usual - [instrumental] In Dawson City in '99 Gold shone bright, times were good while they lasted Then Dawson burnt to the ground And blew away in the lonesome winter wailing winds

BEYOND THIS HORIZON - [very loud rock] 29 August 2005 - Whitehorse YT

There's a bright light on the dark horizon Is it an early sunrise or a late atomic bomb? We won't find out until tomorrow, if any - [chorus:] And what's beyond this horizon? - There's something dry in the sub-arctic rain A dry space, a dry moment, a dry dry dream A mirror of an ice cube in hell's barbecue [chorus] - I'm a desert creature in your softest dreams I'm an armadillo for your love, digging in I'm a chuckwalla nesting in your magma heart [chorus] - There's a dark shadow on the bright future It's who we are, what we did, what we mean, why It's just a baseball of love, lost in the sun [chorus]

GIRL OF THE NORTH COUNTRY - [cyrillic polyrhythmic] 30 August 2005 - Whitehorse YT

She came here with nothing but brains and old pains And a framework of freshly-carved willow She's all wrapped up in some furs she trapped Since she showed up a couple years ago The animalistas think she's evil but they can go to hell Ignore the gamey smell, she's here now - Those muskrat legwraps set off her thighs real nice When she dances with ice queens in moonlight Her eyes glow like an eskimo's whenever she sees Something more than alive around midnight And stroking her throat and smoking a catch And watching and moving along with the northern lights - There's live and death and women and men and zen And lost children and lost thoughts and lost dreams There's 57 flavors of reality served up Like buttercup puzzles — can you solve them this season? She's all wrapped up in whatever comes her way Another supper of roast dreams and roast venison

ST STEPHEN LAUGHS - [medium folk-rock] 30 August 2005 - Lake Laberge YT

Up on the ridgeline on Silver Mountain St Stephen laughs while the lightning rolls like wildfire And down below here, right in my chest There's a hole where there used to be my heart There's a hole where there used to be my heart - On Silver Mountain, Stephen prunes the rivers back Snipping happily at waterfalls and springs And down below here, I look around here And I wonder where all the times have gone And I wonder where all the times have gone - On Silver Mountain, each night's a comedy St Stephen laughs as the seasons roll around, around And down below here, right in my head There's a sponge where there used to be a brain There's a sponge where there used to be a brain

WHO LET MY DUCKS OUT - [honking electro-rock] 31 August 2005 - Lake Laberge YT

Who let my ducks out? Where have all my ducks gone? [repeat 273 times with various sound effects & electronic noise]

I CAN'T MAKE ANY PROGRESS WITH YOU - [lush pop] 31 August 2005 - Lake Laberge YT

I'm making lotsa progress now, I've discovered all sortsa stuff Like curing diseases and how to stay all buffed-up And all the secret entrances and why the sky is blue-ish But I just can't make any progress with you - I'm making real good progress now, I've invented all sortsa crap Electro-titanium tweezers that can piv up bugs and zap'em And 85 applications for organic surgical glue But I just can't make any progress with you - I'm making super progress now, my shrink sez I'm almost there I've developed 17 languages for filling out questionnaire forms Pretty soon I'll beat my neuroses and stop jerking in my shoe But I just can't make any progress with you

EVERY LOVE - [old slow jazz] 31 August 2005 - Lake Laberge YT

Clouds storm in over the mountains Like young tigers playing carelessly Wavelets on the lake blow by like TV snow Under a blueberry-pie sky - The days of our lives play out unscripted, Improvised like cable re-runs The history of our world's rewritten And revised for clarification - [chorus:] And every day's a happy day, somewhere And every time's a happy time, sometime - Tornados and hurricanes wipe away our tears, They wash away our cities They blow up again; they blow down again; They never looked so pretty [chorus] - The world is only slighter bigger After we've eaten everything Another summer like thunder; another winter Goes under; another spring [chorus] - [bridge:] And every love goes long, and every love's rewarded And every love goes short, and falls down from above - I put my finger in, I pull my camera out, I can't look away We climb to the center of the earth And never come out, no Sunday [chorus]

MOUNTAIN SONG - [new fast jazz] 1 September 2005 - Haines Junction YT

The mountains are alive With lightning & missile defense systems The flashes burn my eyes Like a hawk's claws, an eagle's talons But that's old - Who wants to hear another song about mountains? - The craggy snowy mountains, Like carbuncles on Mother Nature's ass If your butt looked like that, You'd see at least one dermatologist Mountains are organic, Like hemlock & cobras & sunburns & aspergrass - I fell off Sulphur Mountain And I rolled into your lonely life I went back to Sulphur Mountain And I don't even know how to fish I dream of the mountains And snowy ridges as sharp as shark knives

WELCOME TO THE ICEBOX - [lively pop] 2 September 2005 - Haines Junction YT

Welcome to the icebox, it's your camp, it's your heart Every dream you ever had, every hand you've ever held Every crystal memory coursing through your bloodstream Welcome to the icebox sucker, sucker, sucker - Welcome to the permafrost, right under your fingertips You walk on it, you crawl on it, you hold it so close This land is your land, this land is focking frozen Welcome to the permafrost sucker, sucker - Welcome to reality, everything is absolutely right Everything is absolutely true, like ice, like fire You walk patiently, watching your breath watching you Waiting for the electrician or someone like him Waiting for the next warm raw of sun to slither in Waiting for anything that's not froze like ancient sin Welcome to yesterday and today and tomorrow Welcome to yesterday and today and tomorrow

SHE THROWS DOWN HER COMPUTER - [slow boogie] 3 September 2005 - Kluane Natl Park, YT

She throws down her computer and she leaps into freedom She throws down her clothes and she jumps right in the lake She swims underwater with her eyes wide open Little fishes nibble her, taking all that they can take - [chorus:] And she touches bottom, and she touches top And she touches start (start start) and she touches stop - She stands on a rock and she sings to the hills Her voice bounces off and she bounces back again Her song is a cocktail stirred into all the colors Her music's molten ice, as piercing as the rain [chorus] - With her hand she reaches out and takes you by the throat With her hand she drops you, you drop right in the (ice/fire) She walks through the air with her eyes wide open She throws her computer down and cuts all the wires [chorus]

THE MUSIC IS GONE - [electro jazz] 4 September 2005 - Kluane Natl Park, YT

The music is gone now, a bubble burst long ago Resistance has shattered, as if it ever really mattered And wandering alone in the park Eyes glistening in the dark, in the dark - Empty houses, empty window, flickering winter light shows A slow dance that's not a tango, that's no dance we know And slowly climbing darkened stairs As if anyone cares, who cares - Not needlepoint, pinpoint precision, a clean incision Hands waving like a magician, a magickal decision And looking at it without fright Seeing it in the night, in the night - Call it love, call it lust, call it might, call it must Time vacuums uo all debris, even you, even me And listening to a piano in the dark One last flickering spark, spark, spark

HAPPY HOLIDAY - [medium rock] 4 September 2005 - Kluane Natl Park, YT

[chorus:] Flash! Bang! Crash! Bang! Heads up! Sturm und Drang! - The show had just started when the bombs went off The brass band fell over, the clowns' heads popped Elephants and acrobats flew around the big top [chorus] - The crowd had just gathered when the lights flashed A long moment of silence til the planes crashed So many pieces anywhere, who can do the math? [chorus] - [bridge:] Just another incident, just another day Just another roadblock on the expressway And who gets paid? And who leads the prayers? - The moon had just gone down when the world fragmented Everything in slo-mo like some demented dream Is this The End or just a bad film I rented? [chorus]

You and me and she and thee And he and ye and them and we We're all dressed-up chimpanzees 'Rang-tangs with nakeder skins Full of monkey-lust and monkey-dreams And monkey-fears and other monkey-things - [chorus:] But monkey-girl, I love you anyway But monkey-girl, I love you anyway - Monkey-girl, monkey-girl, pick off my lice Monkey-girl, monkey-girl, treat me real nice Lick away some of my monkey-tears Parallel processes between the ears Full of monkey-loves and monkey-fears And monkey-shits and monkey-beers [chorus] - I am he as you are me And you are we and we are all monkeys Pretending (pretending) to be civilized Showing the truth in our monkey-eyes Full of monkey-truths and monkey-lies And monkey-food we metabolize [chorus]

I HAVE FOUND MY LIMITS - [folky rock] 7 September 2005 - Whitehorse YT

I have found my limits They're sitting all around me I try to get on well with them And have a good relationship And have a good relationship And have a good relationship - I'm surrounded by my limits There's limits as far as I can see Limits up close and limits to infinity We all take our skins off We all take our skins off We all take our skins off - I scrub my limits' backs And they lick between my toes And we smoke joints in the hot-tub And watch the stars go 'round And watch the stars go 'round And watch the stars go 'round - There's no limits to my limits And there's no place I begin And somewhere west of California The sun sets slowly in the sea The sun sets slowly in the sea The sun sets slowly in the sea

SHE'S SO COMPLEX - [techo boogie] 7 September 2005 - Whitehorse YT

She probably loves him, the percentage is right She'll probably sleep with him again tonight - [chorus:] At the edge of chaos, it's a complex world At the edge of chaos, she's a complex girl Her eyes spin around her complex smile At the edge of chaos, all the while - There's a parrot on her shoulder and a tazer in her bag The ways she loves him, he doesn't even try to brag [chorus] - She walks thru the jungle, thru the city, to the sea She lays down in the sand and thinks of complexity [chorus] - She's self-organized and critical, but in an adaptive way She'll probably do tomorrow who/what she didn't do today [chorus] - The dreams she admires most caught the last bus for the coast She doesn't feel too lonely, just left-behind like most [chorus]

THE SUN JUST WENT SUPERNOVA - [bouncy pop] 7 September 2005 - Whitehorse YT

The sun just went supernova It was only about ten minutes ago You probably just heard about it It'll really ruin our day (our day) - The sun just went supernova It was really a big surprise No psychics had predicted this And now it's burn out their eyes - The sun just went supernova I was skinnydipping at the beach I'll probably get a real bad suntan Then my bones will start to bleach - The sun just went supernova There's not enough time for prayers And no time for sex or tea or dessert It'll really ruin our day (our day)
