Cartography / Mapping Links

compiled by Ric Carter
Not only is it easy to lie with maps, it's essential... There's no escape from the cartographic paradox: to present a useful and truthful picture, an accurate map must tell white lies. —Mark Monmonier, How To Lie With Maps

The idea of such a thing as a map is at once one of the most primative and the most civilized of human feats. It is both a yen and a conception, like such other old but ever new ideas as music and dance, myth and fiction, image and depiction, thought and symbol. —David Greenhood, Mapping

Geology Resources
(under construction)

Geologic Field Trip Guides - collect the entire set
Seismo-Surfing & Seismo-Watch - shakin'all over
USGS Volcano Hazards - hot stuff (via google)
USGS Seismology - officially shaky information

TerryWrightGeology - an informative old fart prof

Disclaimers: The order of the above items is not necessarily significant or even thought-out to any extent. Links may change or evaporate at any time, much faster than most geological processes. Your humble Editor is just too focking lazy to bother updating this page very often. Nothing here is warranted for accuracy, usability or meaning. Have fun.

Blathering: I've collected accumulated and created scribbled maps of various sorts since I was but a wee young thing, bicycling between gas stations to fill my coffers. Is this a curse? One of my long-term goals (meaning I haven't started on it yet) is to fire up my old VistaPro 3.1 software, import GIS data, and generate some fun 3D and animated maps. Until then I'll continue hitting rocks to see what falls out.
