I went into town for some artichoke hearts But artichoke hearts just couldn't be found There ain't no artichoke hearts in town I think I'll move to Watsonville - I went to town for peyote buttons I couldn't get high, I had to stay down There's no peyote buttons in town Think I'll move to El Paso - I went into town for hot wet sex I'm of the sheep, I'm tired of the dog But there ain't no sex in town, in town I think I'll move to Oakland - I went into town for some exercise Trim those thighs, trim those thighs But I ate a Big Mac and an order of fries I guess I'll move back in with you, with you I guess I'll move back in with you - I went into town just to see the lights I got in a fight and they read me my rights Now I'll be here 30 days and nights I think I'll move outa state, outa state I think I'll move outa state

A GOOD DAY (For Devouring) has moved here

We're having us a revolution - d'ya pledge your soul? We're jiggering the networks, gonna crash the Web Wipe out all the crime files, short-circuit every probe Obliterate the corporations, watch the world revervberate [chorus] -- We're having us a revolution - what's in it for you? We're having us a revolution - what's in it for you? Think some revolution thoughts, do some revolution stuff Get a revolution tan on your revolution muff Collect all those experiences, you revolution buff [chorus]

A LITTLE BIT, A LITTLE BIT MORE Sebastapol, CA 28 Aug 2000

A song, a multi-layered piece, starting off in 13/8: Da DAH da, da DAH da, da da da da da DAH, uh -- like that, maybe, with words like: A LIT-tle bit of AN-gie, and then a LIT-tle bit more A LIT-TLE bit of LIN-da, and then a LIT-tle bit more A LIT-TLE bit of SU-sie, and then a LIT-tle bit more
et cetera. And run that thru a few times; then, delete a beat at the end of each phrase, so now we have one layer going on in 13/8, and another layer going in 12/8 -- ah, maybe downshift that pitch by a third -- and play those two layers together awhile, until they re-synchronize. Then play them synchronized, both in 13/8, for a couple of measures, and then add a third voice, a third layer, it's pitched another third down -- break out that second layer back into 12/8, leave the first layer in 13/8... and set this next lower layer into 11/8 -- at the same time, for each of these layers, take every third note and harmonize it, drop it down about 2 or 3 octaves -- maybe every third note, maybe every fourth note -- and have this whole overlay itself, or even generate even more layers beyond that, see how far we can take it.

THE RATS IN HER HEAD Forestville CA 29 Aug 2000

The rats in her head are eating her brain But she barely notices, not today She's playing at being a lady of leisure Taking her pleasure with drugs and toys and boys and dogs The fog in her brain is just on the margins No larger a worry than overspiced curry The rats in her head, the rats in her head - The rats in her head are eating her brain The bit that remains after all these years The marmelade wonder of gears and goop She's out of the bigger loop Running a treadmill to Heaven Or someplace like that The rats in her head, the rats in her head - The rats in head are eating her brain They're having a good time, and so is she The cellophane membranes that screen her reality Flicker and shimmy and shake and shine The feeling's diving and so is the wine, Some amyl, some ecstasy, sunrise and me All in a hot whirlpool swirling from ear to ear Washing out fears of The rats in her head that are eating her brain The rats in her head that are eating her brain The rats in her head that are eating her brain

THE RANDOM VICTIM Forestville CA 29 Aug 2000

She was walking down the sidewalk when she fell over dead Maybe it was the alien rays to her head Maybe it was toxic shock, maybe too much smog Maybe she was bitten by a mad dog, mad dog She's just the random victim - She was just another causalty on the street There weren't any death squads to be seen Another random victim, another random victim When will you be a victim too? [Huh huh?] She's just the random victim - Life is continuous, it never starts or ends You only see the spurts and the splats and the splatters We think that what happens in our lives really matters, but Are you so important? Are you so important? Are you so important? She's just the random victim - [instrumental] She was walking down the sidewalk, she fell dead on the street Dead on the street, on the street, dead on the street... She's just the random victim Dead on the street, on the street, dead on the street... She's just the random victim Dead on the street, on the street, dead on the street... She's just the random victim

OH, GRASSHOPPER Santa Rosa, CA 31 Aug 2000
