Including 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2004 regulation changes with a 2005 warning.

These pages offer an overview of the abalone harvesting regulations in effect in Northern California at the time of these web pages were posted. This information is provided in hopes of clarifying the relevant rules and regulations and to save some harvesters (new and old) from the sticker shock that comes with getting "popped" by a game warden or coastal law enforcment officer.

This section is not a substitute for reading the current Abalone regulations and grasping their significance. When in doubt about the meaning of a specific rule, a simple call to the Department of Fish and Game provides quick and painless clarification. A decision on your part that this or that regulation is of little consequence ignores the fact that there is a good reason for even the most trivial seeming regulation. Be forewarned that the law enforcement officers involved in this resource are rather zealous when it comes to total enforcement.
