Our Outreach and
Mission Project Programs
Sebastopol UMC brings together people committed to helping others in need in our
community. Here are some of the outreach and mission projects we support
with our time, prayers, and money:
Current
and Ongoing Opportunities
- We are now
collecting used ink cartridges, for recycling, in Epworthian Hall.
- Items such
as snack bars, small boxes of raisins, vienna sausage, instant oatmeal,
instant cocoa, ramen noodles, granola bars, shampoo and soap, disposable
razors, toothbrushes and toothpaste, and combs can be left in the container
marked "Church Door Ministry" in our Narthex, or with the
office during the week. These items are then packed and distributed
through our Church Door Ministry program.
- Our special
offerings on communion Sundays are divided between the Sebastopol
Interfaith Food Pantry and our Church Door
Ministry.
- The Sebastopol
Interfaith Food Pantry can always use volunteers to help with distribution
of food. They are located behind St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, and
they distribute food for a two-hour period each Monday, Wednesday, Friday
and Saturday. Canned and packaged food can be left in the larger basket
in the Narthex and they will be delivered to the food pantry each week.
Our special offerings on communion Sundays are divided between the Interfaith
Food Pantry and our Church Door Ministry.
to volunteer at FISH. Sebastopol UMC provides three
volunteers the third Saturday morning of each month. A sign-up sheet
is located in Epworthian Hall.
- Several
volunteers are needed to help cook and cleanup for the
Golden Rule lunches the second and fourth Thursday of each month. Contact
Julie B for more information, or to volunteer.
- Collection
cans for Campbell Soup labels (and other
food labels/UPC codes - contact church office for list) are in the Narthex
and the church office. The labels are sent to the McCurdy School in
New Mexico to support the United Methodist school for Native American
children in that area.
- If you would
like to visit one of the more than 20 shut-ins in our congregation,
see Julie B. for a list of names.
Mission
and Outreach Programs
The
Sebastopol Interchurch Food Pantry The combined effort of the churches
in Sebastopol to meet emergency hunger needs of the community. We are
always collecting food goods to donate, regularly donating money (a portion
of our Communion offering) and have special food collection drives at
Thanksgiving. Church members volunteer at the pantry, and on the board.

Sebastopol UMC Justice Ministry Provides
low-cost legal services to the low income people in our communities. Run
by Dee Schilling, a Commissioned Church Worker/lawyer.[Back

Church Door Ministry Provides snack bags and give food
vouchers, rain ponchos, sleeping bags and socks to folks who come by our church office seeking help.
The snack foods are donated by the congregation and placed in the basket marked, “Church Door
Ministry” in the entrance to the sanctuary. The bags are put together by the youth of our church
on the first Sunday of each month. The vouchers are paid for with half of the money donated on
Communion Sundays.

much more to use at the school.[Back

Brookwood
Homeless Shelter Our congregation adopted a family room at the
new Brookwood Shelter in Santa Rosa, when the shelter first opened, donating four beds, linens,
a dresser, mirror, bookcase and lamps to initially furnish
the room. For the past couple of years we have also provided Christmas
presents (and stockings for the children) for each of the families staying
there at Christmas. [Back
