Have you been wondering what all the fuss is about with Web sites and Home Pages?Well, this class is designed as a gentle introduction to help you get started making a web page which can be viewed by anyone in the world who has access to the Internet.

Up until recently, in order to have a web page you had to deal with HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language). This was a series of tags which looked like this:

This code <H1>Linda Hemenway <H1>

produces Linda Hemenway

this code "<a href="http://www.santarosa.edu/cis/"> Online Home Page</a>

creates a link like this
CIS Online Home Page

All the stuff inside<>are HTML tags which for many folks can be a
confusing code to learn. Using PageMill you no longer need to memorize the
code; you can just use the buttons and menu items in PageMill to write the
HTML for you.

Goals:

By the end of the class, you will have:

  1. Created an index.html (Home page) which will be the opening screen of your web site; created at least one other page which deals with specific information about you, your hobbies, family or interests.
  2. Created links within your home page, to the other web page you created, and to sites on the World Wide Web.
  3. Added 2-3 graphics; add a graphic that is interlaced and transparent
  4. Added a background color and text color
  5. Created a table
  6. Created a mailto:
  7. See a demonstration of how to load your files onto the Internet
