Play and Learn the Anishinaabe Language with a Mackinac dialect

This is where you can learn the Anishinaabe Language

This is a work in progress. The vision is to build an interactive game filled with the beautiful words from our Anishnaabe language. As you can see, I am a very new student, and those of you who speak the language should get a real good laugh. We hope to get an actual speaker of the language to speak the words soon. Then we can all hear our language in the way it was meant to be spoken. In the mean time, if you would like to support, contribute or even adopt this project, please send us an e-mail.

The game is a Java applet. If you need to download a recent version of Java Web Start and you are on a Windows machine (if the educational game below does not work) you can get it here: --> Download Java and Web Start Click on the applet if the game is not working. Make sure your sound is on and if you want to hear the word again hit another letter!

About Native Language Educational Games

"Greetings! The ability to communicate is a miracle. By uttering a simple phrase another human can know what you intend, how they should act and so much more." ---Arthur Jacobs, Native Language Educational Games

"While seeking ways to communicate in a positive manner with members of our tribal community who live outside the tribal region, I discovered the Coast Miwok Language Game, developed by Arthur Jacobs. When I told Arthur we needed a similar game for the Anishnaabe people, Arthur selflessly devoted his expertise to create the Ansihnaabe Language Game. Megwitch Arthur! The Anishnaabe Language Game will be an excellent feature for a web site devoted exclusively to the "Coming Together" of our Mackinac Straits native community. Please feel free to play and learn and come back often as we add more content." ---Catherine Hollowell
