CLASS THEMES/PRIMARY CONTENT: By considering core romantic values of China, Japan and/or Korea in premodern literary texts and modern cinema, the student explores through critical reading, film criticism, classwide discussion, dialogue with a team member, and written comparative analysis one of these tracks: East Asian traditional values in a globalizing world; the durability traditional values when cultures modernize; or specific cultural differences between China, Korea and Japan. All lectures, reading, film presentation, and other work have as their approach and goal comparative analysis of one type or another.
