Genji's half-brother Suzaku becomes emperor between this and the previous chapter. Suzaku has sympathy for Genji, but is controlled by his mother Kokiden and father. Chapter covers Genji's 22nd year though the final passages cover the New Year, thus a bit of his 23rd year.
