What is the MRC TLC?
A place for District staff
The Mary Collins Teaching & Learning Center (TLC), under the auspices of the District K - 12 Staff Development Committee, was created for the use of all District staff members. Originally the twenty-year dream of the late Dr. Mary Reiss Collins, the TLC was established by teacher Tim May as a Mentor Project in 1990. This resource center serves over 700 teachers and classified employees serving over 7000 students in the Petaluma Elementary and High School Districts. The TLC is also open to the staff of Petaluma School District "feeder" schools as well as the Old Adobe and Waugh School Districts and St. Vincent's Schools. In 1995 Mary Collins' name was added to the TLC to honor her work as an educator, as principal of Cherry Valley Elementary School, Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Curriculum, mentor, educational consultant, U.C. Berkeley instructor, Stanford University Piaget Institute member, curriculum specialist, and general educational morale booster.
To share ideas and knowledge
The TLC is a place where staff members can create teaching materials, share instructional methods, borrow teaching units, learn how to use the laminator, enlarger, computer software, or other equipment, check out videos or books from the professional library, or make badges for field trips. The equipment, purchased almost exclusively with grants and gifts, is available for use by customers for the cost of materials only.
