On this page you'll find all the homework for a specific week. For an overview of homework for the entire course, please check the "calendar" page. Reading assignments are an important part of the week's study so please make sure you complete them. The weekly quiz may well contain questions based on the week's reading assignments.

2. Article: Showcase Of Modern Navigation Design Trends
http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2010/01/04/showcase-of-modern-navigation-design-trends/

Homework:
Assignment 9 -- Graphics and navigation: Find a web site that is a good example of navigation and interface design. Using the criteria discussed in the Week 7 lecture and PDF notes, give FOUR reasons (in full sentences!) why the site you chose has successful navigation. Be specific about navigation/interface rules that are followed. You must supply the URL.

Input your assignment into the CLASS FORUM (yes... I did say the CLASS FORUM!!!) (you will receive 2 points for posting a message in addition to the 10 for the assignment!): http://online.santarosa.edu/presentation/page/?9560.
Due: 10/9 by midnight

Quiz: Complete Week 7 quiz (link on Week 7 page).

Be sure to count how many postings you have done by clicking on SENDER. By the last day of class you need to have posted 14 messages to get the full 28 points.
Due: 10/9 by midnight

Project 2: Website: Work on completing the design and production for your site.

  • Reread the Project 2 information and instruction sheet to make sure you are following the project requirements.

  • Focus on DESIGN not coding.

  • Read over the design principles and techniques and ask yourself if your site design demonstrates them clearly.
    Is there CONTRAST?
Can you see a strong edge of ALIGNMENT.
Is negative space used to separate or bring together elements for PROXIMITY?
Do you have a theme with repeating elements REPETITION?
    Is the content READABLE?

The Project 2 web site is due: SUNDAY 10/16 by midnight. Please send me a URL with a link to your web site. Late work will not be accepted.

Project 2 presentation: Write a written presentation about your Project 2 web site design (about 400-500 words) and submit it to the class FORUM. Refer to the presentations from previous semesters provided in the link below for ideas about what to write and how much to write. You can talk about the design and planning process, color and layout choices, typography and readability considerations, what you did to follow the design principles, original or creative design ideas, changes you made along the way, things you would still like to change, what you like or dislike about the final design etc. You must include the URL to your Project 2 web site at the top of your presentation.

Comments and feedback on Project 2. I would encourage you to give comments and feedback on other students' presentations in the forum. Your postings will count towards your forum participation but only if you contribute something constructive (not just "I love your site!").
Due: TUESDAY 10/18 by midnight
Read sample presentations and other students' Presentations from previous semesters (Note: some of the links may no longer work).
