Five of us made it out to Bolinas on a very warm morning that turned out to be a scorcher of a day. We came to hike and look at the nesting Great Blue Herons and Great and Snowy Egrets. It was perfect timing as most were flying back and forth to feed their babies! Here is a little taste of our wonderful day in pictures.

Here is the overlook. You can see the nests on the tops of the trees from here. It was about a 1/2 mile climb up the hill.
You can see how many birds share one tree.

Here's a closer view. There are babies with the Egret on the bottom.

Claudia cheerfully instructs us how to use the spotting scopes provided.

Here, some of the birds are flying off to get more food for the little ones.

Here's Deb.

displaying Egret

This bird was displaying and working on a nest the entire time we were there. We think it was trying to attract a mate, since it didn't appear to have babies or eggs. Claudia went back the following week and reported that this bird had built a nest and laid one beautiful blue egg!

Here's Chris in the shade, not like me who stayed in the sun and got burnt.

The steep climb was well worth it. After walking in the woods we came out into the open to savor a great view of Stinson Beach.
