It was September. September can be very hot in the inland valleys of the Bay Area. However, I thought scheduling a hike on Angel Island in San Francisco Bay would be a safe refuge from the heat. After all, you know what Mark Twain said. The coldest winter he ever spent was summer in San Francisco, or something to that effect. Well, as luck would have it, San Francisco was having a super heat wave this day. It was 95° as we shuffled up the unshaded trails on our way to Mt. Livermore, the 781 foot summit on the island.

Here we are on the Tiburon ferry. It was a pleasant 15 minute sail to the island to start our trek. We are the gals who coincidentally all have baseball hats on. We noticed that "The Red Hat Club" was on the ferry too. (Notice the woman with the purple parasol)
Here Janice manages to lift an arm for a happy wave. She is almost to the top.
Well, we made it to the top. Even though we were frying, we had to stay up here for a while to see the views and to take advantage of photo ops. Clockwise from top left: Donna, Sue, Candace and Nancy.
Tiburon and Marin at the top and Ayala Cove on the island in the lower right.
