Friday Night

The chores were done and the wife was in the kitchen
I was in my chair, had a beer, tryin' to ignore her bitchin'
When the phone rang I was hopin' it would be my friend Nate
A Friday night and the boys were beggin to meet me by eight

I had to play it off like I wasn't too happy to be leavin'
When I got out the shower, I felt it, she was steamin'
She didn't rant and rave but sorta just sulked about
When she's really pissed off, she normally don't yell, she'll just pout

I put on a clean shirt that she had just pressed
Walkin' down the hall while I finished gettin' dressed
She was just a mumblin' 'bout somethin' that I really didn't hear
I grabbed my hat and my jacket and finished off my beer

I checked my wallet and I had few bucks
All I needed now was to get to my truck
I headed for the door but I could feel her stare
I had to decide I needed to think…if I really cared

I reached for the knob and it was like a trigger
When I twisted it her rage well it only got bigger
She came a stompin' and sayin' words I didn't know she knew
Somethin' 'bout family and values and us being through

I was a veteran and it didn't break my stride
Hell, I'm a cowboy and I've got my pride
The boys were waitin' and I had a big thirst
Gettin' in trouble, for me, it wasn't a first

Like any good woman she had to get the last word in
On the front porch she was preachin', waggin' her finger and cussin' my kin
She was chirpin 'bout flowers and candy and cards and pretty lingerie
Then she finally reminded me it was the anniversary of our wedding day
