A COWBOY'S PLAN
Like any other day, the wife had her own chores that needed doin'
And while she's busy, there was a master plan a brewin'
Now Cowboy Ron ain't about to buck his duties
But he was a thinkin' 'bout something, it'd be a beauty
The pens needed to be mucked and the fence needed repair
Ron poured another cup of coffee, munched a cookie without dispair
He weren't in no hurry as he was plannin' and thinkin'
Where to start, how to finish…and he weren't even drinkin'
Any good 'ol boy wantin a time knows what to do
Some friends, some beer and a big barbeque
With the plans in his head and his eyes a twinkle
The ground was ready from last night's sprinkle
With pick and shovel he got doin' what needed done
Beads of sweat keepin' pace with the new day sun
Cowboy Ron had a vision and it clearly showed
But by noon he figured his tendon bowed
He moved enough dirt for a crew of four
Only problem was it were in front of the door
What once was his yard and his wife's roses
Was a pit, some rocks and now useless hoses
He kept workin' as the hours crept by
But now the sun was getting' low in the sky
When he finished he figured what would be would be
Cowboy Ron, with pride, went to the house "Hey…come see!"
Donalyn, the wife, came to his call
Followed the tracks he left in the hall
Her jaw dropped when she saw what he'd done
Her yard was gone and she went for the gun
Cowboy Ron got to talkin' real fast
"When friends come over, it'd be a blast"
"You won't be in the hot kitchen cookin' stew"
"We'll gather round this here Texas-sized barbeque"
It took some time to get things just right
Friends gathered round, a comfortable sight
Slabs of beef sizzle on the rack
The dutch oven simmers off in the back
A connoisseur of the oven and grill
Cowboy Ron enjoys the thrill
Even Miss D gives him his due
Though when he started, she'd no clue
