To hear her rustle about in the early morn
Makes me thankful the day she was born
The gentle exhale that falls on my cheek
Through my mind images simply streak

The day is new and things to be done
Jet black hair drenched by the sun
I hug the pillow stealing another wink
She tugs at the covers, I don’t blink

We rise together like every day
A night’s thoughts, so much to say
Minds are spoke and plans are set
Other directions, I’d never bet

It’s taken years to make such a pair
Her thoughts, her deeds, I’ll always care
Together we tackle mornin’ chores
In the truck, she’ll sometimes snore

First the horses, then the cattle
Check ‘em all, ‘tween us not a battle
She’ll do her job come rain or shine
It’s sometimes tough, never a whine

With gray at the temple and less above
I’ve finally discovered my true love
Trust is given and will not bend
A dog is truly man’s best friend
