ROAD TRIP
We don't get away from the ranch too much
With the cattle, the horses, the kids and such
The wife was a beggin' just to get away
So we took off, not knowin' where we'd stay
The city might be your cup a tea
But after a couple a beers, where's a guy to pee
There ain't no mud or broken gates
Hell, there's just pink hair and roller skates
Everything moves fast except all them cars
The houses is too close and winders, they got bars
After drivin' a bit, we rolled up to a fancy hotel
The traffic, the noise, all them folks and some awful smell
We was to stay clear up on the 9th floor
To get to the elevator it took us a bit just to find the door
Then from out of nowhere there was this odd lookin' feller
Guessin' from the way he's dressed, I figured he lived in the cellar
His buttons was shiney but the coat was way too small
If he'd try to build a loop, he'd surely bust 'em all
He weren't wearin' no boots but had on them Sunday shoes
Everything he wore, even his socks, it was all blue
He wanted to know if he could fetch our bags
Then it dawned on me, he was weren’t no stag
His manners was good and probably well meanin'
But I can carry my own stuff so I stood straight and I quit leanin'
The wife and me we headed to the elevator
We was on vacation and the room had its own fridgerator
My stuff was in a duffel slung o'er my back
Some socks, a clean shirt and a warm six pack
I weren't too impressed so far with this city ideer
I just wanted to get to our room and open a beer
Thinkin' we can't do a thang for ourself
That guy wanted to push the buttons, I swear he looked like an elf
He was a lookin' at me in a funny kinda way
My wife was on my arm and I wouldn't let her stray
Then in the silence he said "I like your hat
Are you a cowboy or just dressed like that"
So the wife and me had our time in the city for a day or two
But them folks, they's confused, I swear they don't have a clue
I ain't ever been so eager to leave a place
I need some grass, some air, I need some space
