THE BIGGEST LITTLE HORSE

Well, she might have been fourteen two
But only with a two inch shoe
With a star, a snip, two socks…a beautiful bay
Lacking in size, she had heart, anyone would say

If there ever was a job to do
I'd grab that mare with the invisible two inch shoe
Step in the stirrup and throw a leg astride
Being careful not to fall clean off the other side

No mountain was ever too steep
A mare to always keep
She gave us two handy boys
Their company now brings us joy

It seems like years, but it was only last fall
After a ride when she gave us her all
We had worked those mountains for nearly two weeks
She had soul, she was smart, it still makes me weep

Now lost to us forever
I've got faith her pasture is better
The biggest little horse I'll ever ride
She now stands sixteen hands on the other side
