portrait of mona lisa dite la jaconde by leonardo da vinci, this smiling lady is the top draw at musee du louvre, and is truly awesome in person. [ 16 ] the smiling lady was fun to see, hanging in a second floor gallery in the denon wing. after visiting the mona lisa, we wandered through lots of classic paintings, then we descended into an exhibit of african and oceanic art on the ground floor, a collection destined for its own museum, currently under construction in another part of the city. we left the museum and strolled about the jardin du carrousel. we re-entered the museum in the richelieu wing. we strolled among tapestries two stories tall, flemish masterpiece paintings, many many rooms full of furniture from various ornate periods, and briefly visited part of a huge egyptian exhibit. we were running out of energy, and it was late in the afternoon, so we left the museum and rode the metro home.
