assembled composite image of margueritte and guillaume posing separately beside an ornate lamppost outside musee du louvre. [ 38 ] walking on the quai du louvre, we entered the museum grounds by cutting through an old carriage entrance into cour carree. this internal plaza, the heart of the old louvre was completely filled by a huge temporary tent sheathed in clear plastic. a hundred workers were busy, some sound, stage or lighting people, others wait and buss staff setting formal linen clad tables for a grand feast. ornate chandeliers hung from the metal framing. a high table and a bandstand occupied one end of the facility. looked like quite an event. we followed the perimeter path around the tent and passed into cour napoleon, the plaza behind the pyramid main entrance. we paused beside an ornate lamppost and took pictures of each other. we strolled across the plaza past the pyramid and entered the richelieu wing from the rue de rivoli. our first destination was the sculpture courtyards we saw from the upper floors of the richelieu wing on monday. this portion of the louvre has metal framed glass roofs covering three courtyards, cour marly, cour puget and cour khorsabad. the first two courtyards were intricately divided with stone paths and stairs arranged to display classic european sculpture from the 5th to 19th century. passing into the third courtyard was a complete change in culture.
