Most likely he was drunk and carrying on in the Kennedy tradition of playing hide the salami with a young gal. Busted. So long presidential run. (Boys, keep that zipper closed) A future conservative president, Ronald Reagan Speaks - California Governor Ronald Reagan calls on Congress to strengthen existing laws which cut off federal funds to rioting college students. | Whew! The last three years had seen an increasing civil disobedience against the war and things were getting ugly across the nation. People were dying and being injured at home as well as across the Pacific ocean. There was a sense of great division growing in the country. and then Kent State and Jackson. One mother voiced "they are killing my babies at home and in Viet Nam."

President Richard Nixon's announcement of the U.S. invasion of Cambodia and the need to draft more soldiers for an expansion of the Vietnam War effort provoked massive protests on campuses throughout the country. At Kent State University in Ohio, demonstrators occupied buildings and destroyed the ROTC offices. In response, the governor of Ohio dispatched hundreds of National Guardsmen to the campus. On May 4, the guardsmen open fire on a crowd of protesters, killing four student and wounding nine others. |
