Salvia Guaranitica - A large 4'-5' tall herbaceous perennial from South America. This cultivar has light blue flowers and a long bloom season starting in early summer to first frost. The ovate, pointed slightly toothed, and hairy light-green leaves are about 5" long. It needs full sun situation and a fast drainage with enriched soil. Regular watering throughout the growing season. Prune plants to the ground in late winter and divide clumps every few years for added vigor. Very cold hardy, surviving temperatures into the 20's. A great cultivar which was introduced into the trade in 1990 by Charles Cresson. I also grow ‘Black and Blue’ deep cobalt blue, tubular blooms and nearly black calyxes on 15 in. terminal flowering spikes all summer long and ‘Blue Ensign’. Pennant-like spikes of large, Cambridge blue, tubular flowers and bright green calyxes proudly rise above the spade shaped leaves, which cloak ‘Blue Ensign’s upright, but freely branching stance.
