Cynoglossum amabile - Chinese Forget-Me-Not, also called Chinese Hound’s Tongue (for the shape of the leaves) originated in China and Tibet. Cynoglossum is derived from Greek words, which mean “dog” and “tongue”. In the Far East and its place of origin, cool climates allow the plant a biennial lifecycle. In the United States, however, it is an annual, where it grows one year, blooms profusely from early to mid-season, and then dies with the frost. It is not a true Forget-Me-Not, but its flower so resemble the species Myosotis sylvatica that it was named after its cousin. Chinese Forget Me Not is easy to grow, easier to grow from seed and is much more vividly blue that the true Forget-Me-Not. It is also easier to control that the native forget-me-nots. Cynoglossum amabile also loves sun, although in hotter environments, partial shade is beneficial. Cynoglossum can be grown on warm, dry sites with occasional water because they have good drought tolerance.
